World Premiere & Movie Review of ‘RAMPAGE’ Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Last night was the World Premiere for Warner Bros. Pictures ‘RAMPAGE’ starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and let me tell ya it didn’t disappoint one bit! Whether you were at the carpet event outside or watching the movie premiere inside, the energy, enthusiasm, and excitement was everywhere. RAMPAGE hits theaters worldwide April 13th.

Dwayne Johnson and Brad Peyton Team Up Once Again

RAMPAGE is not the first time both megastar Dwayne Johnson and Director Brad Peyton worked together. They have a history of working on other action-packed movies such as San Andreas and Journey 2. However, what makes RAMPAGE special for this Hollywood duo is their determination to break the video game-to-movie curse, which to be quite honest has been quite disappointing to all the gamers out there. Trust me, I’m married to one and hear about it all the time!

Based on an arcade game in the 1980’s, RAMPAGE’s story goes only as far as 3 gigantic monsters trying to survive onslaughts of military forces. With little story to work with, Peyton was given the creative freedom to fill in the blanks, throw in some amazing visual effects, and to ultimately create an epic movie perfect for summer viewing worldwide.

Larger Than Life Red Black Carpet Event

Being a resident in downtown Los Angeles and living across L.A. Live venue, it’s safe to say I’ve seen my fair share of Hollywood’s red carpet events. However, I’ve never seen one of such magnitude as I did last night at RAMPAGE’s world premiere. There were huge props and rubble everywhere to replicate scenes from the movie, the carpet was stretched far and wide for all the cast members and press, and to top it off, there was a 20 foot tall replica of George, the silverback gorilla welcoming photo ops (for those brave enough!) Also see below for star cast of the movie.

RAMPAGE In A Nutshell

Dwayne plays Davis, a primatologist who has this strong emotional connection with George, with a silverback gorilla he’s been caring for since birth. Unfortunately George falls victim to a corporate genetic experiment gone wrong and turns into a raging monster over night. He’s not alone and a few other animals turn into these gigantic features destroying everything in its path. It’s ultimately to Dwayne to find a way to save his friend, the city and basically humankind.

If you ask me, the heart of the movie lies within the beautiful relationship between Davis and George, a bromance if you will. Davis basically does everything that he can to save his animal friend. Their characters seems so real, even laced with comedy at times, that the movie goers who sat around me not only felt it (me included), but also responded to that bond (i.e. I definitely heard a few sniffles).

Bottom line: Who doesn’t love a big guy with an even bigger heart for animals?! Yes this movie has a lot of action, but it also has a lot of heart to the story and even bigger message around animal conservation and preservation.

Movie Will Take You For a Ride

RAMPAGE definitely takes the audience on a wild ride that will have you feeling all sorts of emotions throughout the movie. There’s laughter, suspense, and moments of both sadness and sweetness. Throw in the amazing visual effects and you’re left sitting on the edge of your seat, or in my case, covered all over in my own popcorn. I cannot encourage you enough to watch this film ON THE BIG SCREEN. This movie is designed to make you feel like things are jumping out at you and I just want you to get the full experience!

Because Duh, It’s Dwayne

There’s a reason why Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is a huge megastar. Could it be his genuine personality and actually wanting to connect with his fans on the regular? How about his symmetrical features or how his white t-shirt hugs around his biceps throughout the movie?  Whatever your reason, you can’t deny the man of the evening of his charismatic personality, stellar performance, or his ability to deliver the comedic lines only The Rock can deliver.  Expect what you would in any film done by Dwayne and rest assure that RAMPAGE is a fun, action-packed, adventure movie that will surely not disappoint.

RAMPAGE will be released in theaters worldwide starting April 13th. Advance tickets available.

  • You are so right about seeing some films on the big screen! I’m not a huge movie theater person, especially now with small kids, but there are a few movies that don’t quite do justice the same way they did in theater. This one does look quite exciting.
