The parenting world just received the biggest blessing for 2020 because Jo Frost, British nanny extraordinaire, has returned to our rescue by relaunching her hit show “SUPERNANNY” on Lifetime (Wednesdays, 10 EST/PST). Although it’s been nearly a decade since Supernanny ended, letters continued to pour in from families all over America. Well, folks, Jo is back and ready to tackle head-on with today’s modern family issues! Keep reading because I left a little surprise for those who could really use a visit from Supernanny herself 🙂
Hot topics
Supernanny’s 8th season is taking us into the homes of modern families and tackling hot topics across all the generations. This includes external issues such as mental health, addiction to tech devices, anxiety, post-partum depression (PPD), kids and social media, ADHD, how to deal with grief, living with the acceptance of loss, and so much more. The walls are coming down people and Jo isn’t holding anything back!
Kids + beyond
It’s also important to note that Supernanny won’t just be about the kids, but will dive deeper into the relationships across all family members of different ages. The show will also help provide a 360 view for parents who are in the workforce, working moms, stay at home dads, etc. Jo also addresses the sandwich generation, which is a generation of people who care for their aging parents while supporting their own children. Just writing that makes me excited about all the families will be meeting this season!
Modern Families
As the Supernanny team travels across America helping out families, it was important that they showed what a modern family looks like in today’s world. This includes blended families (or bonus family) where either parent has children from a previous relationship, military and first responder families that face separation, same-sex parents, and more.
You can imagine my excitement when I was asked to join Jo Frost for afternoon tea to discuss the show, today’s parenting climate, and really anything in between. Below are a few takeaways from her event that I’d like to share with you all.
Kids + devices: “I want to remind parents it’s all about balance. Remind yourself that fresh air, being outdoors, and keeping the kids moving is good for all of us. It’s about family wellness. Let’s face it, devices aren’t going anywhere and there are wonderful things about technology, but we do need to regulate and have some rules so that we can keep up the importance of communications and create an intimate relationship with our partners and children. Otherwise, you’ll feel very disconnected.”
Tweens + devices: “With kids who are around 13 or 14 years old, you’re at a stage where the children are in different places without you. It is important to have that communication still but set guidelines and rules. Don’t forget that you just need to be savvier with keeping yourself up to speed with what the kids are on and doing. It’s all about ongoing dialogue.”
Our children on social media: “Depending on their age, conversations will vary. Because of social media, there’s a narrative and information everywhere. We need to regulate the amount of exposure that they are actually receiving. Find out what do THEY know and what have THEY heard so we can give facts to their perhaps fake news. It’s also ok to be honest if we don’t know the answers. It is still an ongoing dialogue.
I want families to instill empathy and compassion and to understand that we all are living in this society and not to pick out differences within society. It’s incredibly important to understand as a parent that we are dealing with circumstances that are absolutely horrifying. We got to be able to address the topic as much as we actually can with the facts, but also regulate according to age. Again, the conversation has to be ongoing.”
Thoughts on spanking: “Absolutely no spanking. It’s ineffective, an outdated practice, and we need to change that completely.”
Thoughts on Meghan + Harry recent news: “I don’t know all the facts. What I do know is that as a parent, you got to do what’s best for your kids. If they feel that they made the best decision for their child, then good for them.”
Supernanny airs every Wednesday (10/9C) on Lifetime, but you can also catch missed episodes on the Lifetime website! I’ve already watched all 3 episodes and have learned so much about myself and my family. Plus it’s also nice to know you’re not the only family dealing with a certain situation! Grab some tissues and be ready to take some notes because you’re about to get educated and entertained at the same time :). Love how Jo is always instilling empathy, compassion, and humanity in her advice. Thank you Jo and Lifetime for coming back into our lives!
If you feel overwhelmed with parenting and feel like your family could benefit tremendously with Supernanny’s help, feel free to reach out to the casting team at supernannycasting@shedprod.com.
