I was obsessed at first sight. I just knew within the first 10 seconds of watching the IMAX Pandas trailer that it was going to be a hit with my family. For someone who can easily get lost for hours on YouTube watching cute animal videos, this documentary was a no-brainer decision to watch. Cute pandas innately being adorable. Check. Documentary that is designed to entertain AND educate my kids. Double check. Having Kristen Bell (aka Callie’s favorite voice over artist) do the narration… just tell me where to swipe my credit card already!
Pandas in a nutshell
Warner Bros Pictures and IMAX brings to life “Pandas”, a heartwarming journey of Qian Qian, an adorable captive-born giant panda cub who is destined for life in the wild. A cross-culture collaboration connects Chinese scientists at the Chengdu Panda Base with an American black bear researcher from New Hampshire. Together, they work to reintroduce captive-born pandas into he spectacular, mystical mountains of Sichuan.
Movie review
It was such a delightful experience to get immersed into Qian Qian’s world surrounded by breathtaking landscapes I normally wouldn’t have access to. There was so much to appreciate, from their insanely adorable behavior to their emotional connection to humans. In addition to all the cuteness, the “Pandas” documentary is also informative and provides a sense of urgency as they are the oldest and most endangered species of bear (there’s less than 2000 of them left). To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever talked to the kids in depth about endangered species. It was really nice to hear them ask so many questions they genuinely wanted to know the answer to!
Let’s be honest though, we came to watch cute adorable pandas up close and got plenty of that! For someone who can easily spend hours watching endless videos of animals on YouTube, this film surely did not disappoint. Watching it on the IMAX screen and experiencing all the details come to life is what it’s all about. Definitely wouldn’t have had the same experience watching it on my phone or home tv! So go check out these cuddly pandas get into mischief and basically living their best life at IMAX theater near you. You won’t regret it 🙂
